Deathtrap

Broadway thriller writer Sidney Bruhl is struggling to overcome a dry spell which has resulted in a string of failures and a shortage of funds. A possible break in his fortunes occurs when he receives a script from a student in the seminar he has been conducting— a thriller that Sidney immediately recognizes as a potential Broadway smash. Sidney’s plan, devised with his wife’s help, is to offer collaboration to the student for co-credit. Or is it? Deathtrap provides twists and turns of devilish cleverness, and offers hilariously sudden shocks that audiences will be spellbound until the very last moment.

Announcing Auditions for “Deathtrap” by Ira Levin. Auditions will be held on Sunday February 1st at 7 pm and will consist of cold readings from the script.

Parts exist for 3 Males (20s-60s) and 2 Females (30s-60s). Full descriptions below.

Rehearsals begin late February.

Performances are weekends April 10-26, 2026

Character Descriptions:

Sidney Bruhl, male, age 40's-60's

Successful writer of Broadway thrillers in a dry spell following a string of failures. Polished, devious, clever, thinks he’s the smartest man in the room and wantspeople to know it; is “on stage” even when at home.

Myra Bruh, female, age 30's-50's

Sophisticated, upper-class, but embraces the country life; innocent, sweet, caring, emotional, nervous, even skittish, supportive of Sydney’s career and moods but grows some backbone when he crosses the line.

Clifford Anderson, male, age 20's-30's

A student; very attractive, boyish and handsome at the same time; physically fit; he is very clever; knows he’s the smartest man in the room; covers it with innocence, affection, and naïveté.

Helga ten Dorp, female, age 40+

Psychic, wild, individual, Gypsy-like; in and out of her world and this world; knows she’s a celebrity and buys into the show of her gift; has a Dutch accent; is disarming and brave when faced with pain and violence.

Proctor Milgrim, male, age 45+

Sidney's lawyer, professional, solid, observant.
