EMI AND ALICE: An Unlikely Musical Romance is a musical written by Sandy Rustin, featuring music and lyrics by Edie Brickell, CJ Camerieri, and TreverHagen. The story unfolds in the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas,focusing on the complexities of life, love, and human connection in the face of adversity.


Calling All Performers

Invitation for central Texas students to participate in a developmental workshop for a Broadway bound new musical - Work with a director/choreographer and writing team from New York to develop movement, staging, and scene work.

All participants paid $13/hr

What we are looking for:

• 14 Performers

• Current college students

• People with background in movement, devising, and/or acting

• Those who can commit to most or all of the sessions (see below)

• Performers interested in creating new work

Session times (all sessions taking place on UT campus):

1/12: Introduction in evening

1/13-1/24: Weekend Work Sessions between 10am and 6pm (break from 1-2)

1/13-1/23: Evening Work Sessions from 5-9pm

1/25: Evening invited showing of material

CHARACTERS:

• Alice Fine (22): A hopeful Midwestern Jewish girl living in New York

pursuing her dreams in musical theatre, navigating her father’s illness and

her own personal growth.

• Clara Fine (51): Alice's mother, a fragile yet strong woman who struggles

with anxiety and her emotions while supporting her family through difficult

times.

• Maury Fine (51): Alice's father, a pediatrician facing leukemia, who remains

optimistic and tries to find meaning and hope despite his illness.

• Emi ('em-ee) (25): A Jordanian graduate student with a witty sense of

humor, who is the bone marrow donor for his father and forms a

connection with Alice.

• Qamar (kuh-‘mahr) (52): Emi's proud, loyal mother, deeply pious and

caring, deeply involved in her family's cultural and spiritual life.

• Dabir (da-‘beer) (52): Emi's father and a current cancer patient, a reserved

yet proud man who is also facing his own health struggles.
