We need a cast of 35 to step up and make this classic musical with a timeless story and musical core a huge hit for the Company.
(NOTE: There are no young children’s roles in this one.)
We did this show 26 years ago, in the summer of 1999 in the FHS auditorium with a cast of 33 supported by a 22-piece live orchestra. It was a huge hit then, and will be a hit this season. Here’s a fact about that 1999 cast I’m extremely proud of. Fifteen of the 33-member cast were
MEN! This score has fun music for ensemble singing in which a solid male-voice contingent makes it glorious! Of course, I want singing women as well.
Auditions: Saturday-Sunday-Monday October 18-19-20. ALL parts are open.
We’re looking for an experienced singer/actress with lots of acting range to play Eliza, one who can be both a convincing commoner flower girl and a high society princess, singing beautifully through the change and making us fall in love with her.
We need a strong, authoritarian but likable Henry Higgins and his kind sidekick, Colonel Pickering. We need a rich, hopeful, loverboy Freddy Eynsford-Hill.
And one of the best roles in all musical theater is the engaging low commoner Alfie Doolittle, Eliza’s father, who sees a fast buck to be made by letting Higgins use her for his linguistic experiment.
The men’s ensemble shines as it accompanies Eliza on “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?”. Both men and women ensemble shine in “Get Me to the Church On Time”, “The Servants Chorus”, and “Ascot Gavotte”. There are also several excellent non-singing roles. Except for Alfie’s buds and Higgins’ maids, it’s all high society, fancy clothes, and stuffy attitudes.
Rehearsal Period:
We’ll begin with principal actors/singers about once a week through Oct- Nov-Dec as soon as the cast is set. We’ll meet the ensemble a couple of times before Christmas and pick up the rehearsal period on the first week of January. Cast rehearsals are usually evenings beginning at 6pm. We can offer some opportunity to be somewhat flexible to accommodate personal schedules for the supporting cast up to 2 ½ weeks before opening night. Check with us to see if flexibility is an option for you.
More information will be forthcoming including what to expect for auditions. Meanwhile, don’t hesitate to call me with any questions – 830-456-9550.
