AUDITION NOTICE

 

ZACH Theater is seeking Austin-based actors of all ethnicities and gender identities who play musical instruments for our upcoming production of Charlotte’s Web. In-person auditions will be held on October 9th, 2025 from 2:00pm-7:00pm at the Nowlin Rehearsal Studio at 1426 Toomey Road. Callbacks will be held on October 16th, 2025.

REHEARSAL & PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE:

Rehearsals are Monday - Saturday, 10am - 4pm from January 20th - February 1st, 2026. Tech is February 3rd -8th from 9am -5pm. Performances for schools and families will begin in the Kleberg Theatre on February 10th, 2025 and take place Tuesdays through Sundays weekly with the final performance on May 17th, 2025. Weekend performances will be at 11 am and 2:30pm. Weekday performances will be at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.

 

Actors should audition only if they will have daytime availability in January - May of 2026.

SUBMISSION INFORMATION:

We are seeking non-AEA actors of all ethnicities, ages, and gender identities who play musical instruments. Ideally, we are looking for actors who play guitar, ukulele, banjo, violin / viola, but welcome any other instrument that could blend with a bluegrass band!

○      If you are an aerialist, please include your aerial reel (if you have one) on your audition form.

●      Sign up for a time slot HERE

●      Please prepare 16-32 bars of a folk or bluegrass song of your choosing.

○      If you don’t feel comfortable playing an instrument and still would like to be considered, please bring a track to sing with.

 

Submission Deadline:  October 9th, 2025 5:00pm CST.

 

ROLES TO BE CAST:

 

Actor One: Wilbur, Male-identifying: A sweet, innocent, and enthusiastic pig who wears his heart on his sleeve.

 

Actor Two: Charlotte / Baby Spider, Female-Indentifying: This role requires aerial skills to move safely and confidently above the stage. Charlotte is a smart, calm, and caring spider who guides and supports Wilbur, with clear vocal delivery and the ability to interact with other barnyard characters.

 

Actor Three: Goose / Spectator / Judge, Male or Female-identifying: An energetic, comic barnyard character who speaks in a repetitive, sing-song way and thrives on playful physicality. This actor will also take on the roles of Spectator and Judge at the county fair.

 

Actor Four: Templeton / Lurvy / Spectator, Male or Female-identifying: Templeton is a cunning, greedy, and sarcastic rat who looks out for himself above all else. Lurvy is a kind-hearted, simple farmhand, and the Spectator is a curious fairgoer.

 

Actor Five: Mr. Arable / Gander / Avery / Reporter (Carter) / Judge, Male-identifying: Mr. Arable is a practical, caring farmer, Avery is mischievous and playful, Gander is a proud and protective bird, the Reporter is curious and professional, and the Judge is fair and authoritative.

 

Actor Six: Homer / Narrator #2 / Uncle (the Pig), Male-identifying: Homer is a friendly, helpful farmhand, and Uncle the Pig is a warm, supportive presence in the barnyard.

 

Actor Seven: Narrator #1 / Mrs. Arable / Sheep / President of the Fair, Female-Identifying: Mrs. Arable is a caring and practical mother, the Sheep is cautious and easily alarmed, and the President of the Fair is confident and commanding.

 

Actor Eight: Fern, Female-identifying: Fern is a kind, compassionate, and spirited young girl who cares deeply for Wilbur and is full of curiosity about the world around her.

 

We are also looking for Non-AEA Understudies for this production.
