In this hilarious sequel to Greater Tuna, it’s Christmas in the third-smallest town in Texas. Radio station news personalities Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie report on various Yuletide activities, including the hot competition in the annual lawn-display contest, won 14 times in a row by Vera Carp. A mysterious “Christmas Phantom,” known for vandalizing the yard displays, has the contestants on edge. In other news, voracious Joe Bob Lipsey’s production of A Christmas Carol is jeopardized by unpaid electric bills. Many colorful Tuna denizens, some you will recognize from Greater Tuna and some appearing here for the first time, join in the holiday fun.
In-person auditions will be held July 13, 2025 at Penfold Theatre, 2120 N. Mays St, Ste #290 Round Rock, TX 78664.
Character/Actor Breakdown:
Two actors play all 22 roles in the show.
We are specifically looking for two female-identifying or non-binary performers, of any and all race/s and body type/s, to cast this show.
Character breakdown is as follows:
Actor 1 plays: Thurston Wheelis, Elmer Watkins, Bertha Bumiller, R.R. Snavely, Aunt Pearl Burras, Sheriff Givens, Ike Thompson, Inita Goodwin, Leonard Childers, Phoebe Burkhalter, and Joe Bob Lipsey
Actor 2 plays: Arles Struvie, Didi Snavely, Petey Fisk, Jody Bumiller, Charlene Bumiller, Stanley Bumiller, Vera Carp, Dixie Deberry, Helen Budd, Farley Burkhalter, and Garland Poteet
Auditions and Callbacks:
Auditions will be held in person on Sunday July 13th, 2025 from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM. Callbacks will be the evening of Thursday July 17th from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM. In-person auditions will consist entirely of cold readings from the script, which will be provided at the audition. When you sign up, we will assign you an hour-long block with other auditioners, and the director will mix and match during the readings.
If you are unavailable for in-person auditions on Sunday July 13th, you may submit a video audition doing two of the monologues from the show. Please still fill out the audition form below and note you will be submitting a video in the availability question, and then click the Google drive link to access the folder with the monologues. We ask you to select two monologues from the options, from two different characters, ideally one of each gender character.
Video submissions will be accepted until Saturday July 12th at 12:00 PM.
What to prepare:
All audition materials will be provided onsite for cold readings. No preparation needed.
Rehearsal and Performance Dates
Rehearsals are slated to begin at the beginning of November, either onsite at Penfold Theatre, 2120 N. Mays, Suite 290, Round Rock, TX 78664, or at an offsite location mutually convenient to participating artists. All location information will be provided in advance on the official rehearsal schedule. Performances open on Friday December 12th and play Thursday-Saturday evenings at 7:30 PM and Sunday matinees at 2:00 PM through Sunday December 28th.
