A Doctor's Visit

Set in 2019, A Doctor’s Visit is an exploration of who we believe and why we believe them. The play follows Joy, an OBGYN nurse, the day she discovers her daughter hit another student. As she works to unravel the truth of the story, her personal and professional life align in mysterious ways. And when she finds out she was in the room the day a doctor sexually assaulted a patient, she begins to question her reality. Will she face the truth or continue to deny the apparition which haunts her imagination?

About the schedule:
Rehearsals will begin mid-late August and will be scheduled around the actor’s availability, mostly evenings (7 pm -10 pm) and weekends (Saturday afternoons). Rehearsals will be in various locations around central Austin. Tech week is Nov 2nd - Nov 5th, 2025. Performances run Nov 6th - Nov 22nd 2025 on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Performances are at Hyde Park Theatre, Austin
Available Roles:
Actors will receive a $500 stipend. The character of Nina will be played by a child actor. The role of Haley has been cast. All other roles available.
Characters:
Joy: (late 30s) - she's got a lot on her plate and wants to give her daughter the best life she possibly can. White or white passing
Doctor: (60s) - he's a very prestigious OBGYN. White
Woman: (late 20s) - She's nervous for her OBGYN exam. A fourth wall-breaker. An apparition.
Black
Nina: (9) - she loves her Nintendo and playing make believe with her best friend, Allie. Daring,until she's shut down. Open ethnicity
Haley: (20s) - She's a new nurse and just wants to do a good job. She's sorry she messed up!!!
Open ethnicity (pre-cast)
Sybil: (30s) - a boy mom. She really thinks she's doing the right thing. Double cast as: Mrs. Johnson: social and obsessed with being elite
Both roles are open ethnicity
Natalie: (50s) - she's been doing this a long time. A bit disillusioned but has her heart in the rightplace. Double cast as: Principal Moore: She's really into deep breathing and meditations.

Auditions:
First round - July 10th, 2025 from 6:15 pm to 10:00 pm. Please select a time and submit an audition form. Slots are 10 minutes long and you will be reading sides from the script. Call backs will be held on July 12th. More information will be sent directly to those invited to callbacks.
