A tightly designed storytelling script of the familiar O. Gifts of the Magi by Randy Courts and Mark St. Germain

Performance Run: Dec 5-8 and Dec 13-15, 2024. Directed and musicl directed by Jeryl Hoover

Narrator Willy (already cast)manages the pace of the storytelling by interacting with the audience making introductions and interpreting the character’s feelings.

A powerful theatrical device of the creators is to replace the usual ensemble with just two characters: City Him and City Her, a man and woman who change characters every few pages to fill cameo roles that move the action along.

Rounding out this musical cast is Soapy, a canny and savvy transient on the streets, who tries to finagle his way into jail for the holidays to enjoy the hospitality of a city-provided warm bed and turkey dinner.

All voice types are soprano (top G5) and baritone with a comfortable top range F4. Running time for the show is 90 minutes total. An intermission will be inserted halfway.

Every role has a feature song. Songs reminiscent of Sondheim. Presentation reminiscent of “The Fantasticks”.

Preferred audition material: a character song from a Broadway show of the past 15 years.
