Sidney Bruhl, a successful writer of Broadway thrillers, is struggling to overcome a "dry" spell. A possible break in his fortunes occurs when he receives a script from Clifford, a student in the seminar he has been conducting at a nearby college—a thriller which Sidney recognizes immediately as a potential Broadway hit.
Deathtrap is a fun, clever meta-thriller involving show business, psychic powers, and more than a few laughs, scares, twists and turns. Jarrott Productions Artistic Director David R. Jarrott is directing.
Jarrott Productions is pleased to announce auditions for our fall production of Deathtrap by Ira Levin. We are committed to employing artists that represent a variety of backgrounds and perspectives. With that in mind, we are excited to receive submissions from a diverse range of actors who are representative of the communities we serve. We strongly encourage you to research our organization, ask us questions, and ignore your imposter syndrome!
Auditions will be on Saturday, July 29th, 2023 from 12:30pm-3:30 pm at Violet Crown City Church, 1300 Morrow Street, Austin, TX.
Auditions are by appointment only and will consist of readings of sides from the script as well as light “fight” calls (please see the COMBAT DISCLAIMER below).
If you are not able to attend in person, video submissions will also be accepted.
Production & Rehearsal Details
Rehearsals will begin on September 19th and take place Tuesday-Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons at Violet Crown City Church.
The show will run October 27-November 12, 2023 at Trinity Street Playhouse.
This is a non-union production; each actor will receive a stipend.
Open Roles
Sidney Bruhl: Male-identifying. 40s/50s. A successful writer of Broadway thrillers.
Clifford: Male-identifying. Early/Mid 20’s. A young, ambitious writer.
The roles of Myra, Helga and Porter are already cast.
COMBAT DISCLAIMER: These roles require moderate stage combat, including but not limited to safe weapon handling (gun, dagger/knife, ax, garrotte, crossbow), deadlifts, falling, rolling and crawling on the ground, hand-to-hand combat (struggles, strangles, holds, grapples, beating). Please be prepared for light “fight” calls at auditions. If you need any accommodations due to current or ongoing injuries or have any questions or concerns, please let us know in your audition submission.
Audition Sign-Up/Video Submission
To sign up for the in-person auditions OR submit a video audition please fill out the SUBMISSION FORM below. You will be asked to upload a headshot and resume.
In-person auditions are by appointment only and will consist of readings of sides from the script. Please prepare both sides. After signing up you will receive an email from Jarrott Productions with your audition time, exact location and more important information by Wednesday July 26th. Audition times slots are on a first come, first serve basis. The cut off for signing up is Friday, July 28th at 5 pm.
Video submissions must be from the sides provided. Please use a reader and perform both sides. You can upload only one video. Video submissions are due no later than 12:00 PM on July 29th. No exceptions.
