Avenue Q
by Harbor Playhouse
Nov. 12 - Nov. 13 (2022)
Winner of the Tony “Triple Crown” for Best Musical, Best Score and Best Book, Avenue Q is part flesh, part felt and packed with heart.
The laugh-out-loud musical tells the timeless story of a recent college grad named Princeton, who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that, although the residents seem nice, it’s clear that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. Together, Princeton and his new-found friends struggle to find jobs, dates and their ever-elusive purpose in life.
Filled with gut-busting humor and a delightfully catchy score, not to mention puppets, Avenue Q is a truly unique show that has quickly become a favorite for audiences everywhere. Although the show addresses humorous adult issues, it is similar to a beloved children’s show; a place where puppets are friends, Monsters are good and life lessons are learned (from MTIshows).

Prepare for Auditions:
Auditions are open to the community ages 18 and up.
From the Director:
This is a character HEAVY show. Please study the characters and their vocal qualities prior to the show. Look online for clips and/or listen to the Original Broadway Cast Recording. Don’t just familiarize yourself with your first and second choice characters – you might be asked to read or sing for several.
Auditions will be held in 2 parts: vocal audition, and reading/line delivery
Vocal Auditions: You will be singing the audition cuts with the karaoke track. We prefer that the audition cut is memorized, but we will have the sheet music on hand if you need it. The karaoke tracks we’ll be using during auditions, as well as the sheet music and cuts from the Avenue Q soundtrack can all be accessed HERE
Auditioning for Male Roles – Please prepare the audition cut of “Purpose”.
Auditioning for Female Roles (and Gary Coleman) – Please prepare the audition cut of “There’s a Fine, Fine Line”
Reading/Line Delivery:
The director will provide you with selections from the script to hear various characters and delivery. You will likely be asked to read several times for several different characters. You will be given a few minutes to read and study the script prior to being asked to read. You will NOT need to have these selections memorized.
Callbacks:
If needed, we will hold callbacks on Sunday. At callbacks you might be asked to read and/or sing for specific characters. If you receive a callback, you will be told which characters and or songs to prepare for prior to the callback. Receiving a callback does not guarantee casting, just as not receiving a callback does not mean you weren't cast.
