Awesome Allie: First Kid Astronaut
by Georgetown Palace Theatre

Sep. 20 - Sep. 24 (2022)

Yesterday Allie was just a normal kid, but today she’s headed into outer space! With the help of her trusty talking dog Captain Chaos and Rover the Dancing Robot from Mars, Allie’s on a mission across the solar system to save Earth, and maybe learn some things about science along the way. But she’d better be home in time for dinner! Grab your space suit and get ready for an adventure that’s out of this world!

Allie was just your typical eight year old girl from Skokie, Illinois, until one day she was chosen for a very special mission. At the farthest edges of our solar system, a space alien lands on Pluto looking for something very important from Earth. But it won’t speak with the President. It claims it won’t speak with anyone. Anyone, that is, except Awesome Allie. Called from across the sky and tapped by the President himself, Allie soon sets out in her dance-powered spaceship on a journey through the stars, soaring from Earth to Pluto with only a trusty, talking dog named Captain Chaos by her side. Along the way, she’ll meet unlikely challenges and unlikelier friends, from the disco dancing land rover stranded on Mars, to the world’s smartest supercomputer, PAL 9000. She’ll learn the order of the planets and lots of fun facts about the solar system, and she’ll need the whole audience’s help if she’s going to dance her ship all the way to Pluto. But what does this Alien want? What is it that’s worth crossing the entire solar system to find? Allie’s about to discover that friendship just might be the most important thing in the whole universe—but only the audience can help her figure it out!

Show Run Time is approximately 50-55 minutes.

Rehearsals:

Awesome Allie will begin rehearsals on or around Monday, October 3, 2022. Scripts and scores will be available for pick up before the first rehearsal to those who are offered roles in our production.

Rehearsals are typically held Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and possibly Saturday afternoons from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. (Not all hours of these rehearsal times would necessarily be required for all cast members).

Performances:

Performances are tentatively scheduled for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 10:00 am and at NOON. Cast members MUST be available for all performance dates and times. However, actual performances are confirmed based on reservations from schools for group field trips. Actual performance dates and times will be confirmed for the cast and crew two weeks prior.

There are also two Saturday performances with ticket sales open to the public on October 29, 2022 and November 5, 2022 at 11:00 am.

Conflicts:

Due to the truncated rehearsal period, we will be looking for actors who generally have daytime availability and can provide very few conflicts. We are unable to accept any performance conflicts at all. Please make sure to notate any and all conflicts that you are aware of on your conflict sheet when filling out your audition form. Adding all of your conflicts after casting could result in removal of the production.

Casting:

Casting will be done in the following days by the Awesome Allie production team and send their cast list to be approved by the Executive Artistic Director. Once approved, emails will be sent to the actors that will be offered a role in the production. Once a full cast has accepted, an email to all remaining actors who auditioned will then be sent.

PAID OPPORTUNITY!

For this TYA show, performers will be paid a weekly stipend of $200.00 for each week of the rehearsal and performance period (October 3, 2022 – November 11, 2022). This stipend will be paid at the same amount for all performers regardless of the actual number of rehearsals and/or performances completed per week. The intent is to help offset the cost of reduced availability for other work hours/job opportunities due to the scheduling commitments of daytime rehearsals and performances.

Health and Safety Protocols:

Masks are currently optional for all patrons, front of house staff, performers, crew, and musicians during rehearsals and performances.

Everyone should self-monitor for symptoms and stay home if they do not feel well. You should also wear a mask if you have direct exposure to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, and get tested on the 5th day following the exposure.

We’re constantly monitoring and evaluating our policies and will update them based on guidance from the CDC.
