The Laramie Project
by Port Aransas Community Theatre (PACT)

Apr. 24 - Apr. 25 (2022)

In October 1998, a twenty-one-year-old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten, and left tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. His bloody, bruised, and battered body was not discovered until the next day, and he died several days later in an area hospital. His name was Matthew Shepard, and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay.

Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie over the course of a year and a half, in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard. They conducted more than 200 interviews with the people of the town. Kaufman and Tectonic Theater members have constructed a deeply moving theatrical experience from these interviews and their own experiences in Laramie.

The Laramie Project is a breathtaking collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.

THE LARAMIE PROJECT

In-Person and Online Auditions

The Laramie Project will be directed by Ken Yarbrough. The original show incorporated 8 actors, but PACT will be doing non-traditional casting. We are looking for as many people as possible to fill the multitude of characters present in the show. Some roles will be filmed and don't require actors to attend performances. We want to be inclusive in our casting, so we encourage anyone who is interested in being apart of the show to audition.

In-person auditions will take place at Port Aransas Community Theatre on April 24th and 25th at 7 pm. Expect to read lines from the show and follow direction.

Online auditions require a video submission. Please perform a contemporary monologue no longer than 5 minutes to demonstrate your range. Please also provide a separate document with relevant personal information and theatre experience. You can submit your online audition below.

Performances will be June 9-12, 2022. This show is an official event of PRIDE Corpus Christi 2022, and we are ecstatic to be the first Coastal Bend community theatre to present this moving theatrical experience.
