Oedipus the Tyrant

In this modern retelling of the classic story, Thebes is a country in turmoil. With the new king having suddenly risen to power, the people of Thebes are increasingly discontent. Obsessed with discovering what is poisoning his subjects against him, Oedipus is willing to give up anything, sink to any low, to recover the lost greatness of Thebes.

Auditions Friday April 26th, 2019 and Saturday April 27th

Show Dates: June 6th-8th, 2019 and 13th-15th at 8 pm.
Preparations: For your audition, please prepare one of the following: two contrasting contemporary monologues (not to exceed one minute each), two improvised monologues (you will be provided a prompt), or a cold read from a selection of the script. If available, please bring a headshot and resume.
All roles are open to any performer, regardless of race, gender, age, or physicality. All roles are paid.
Casting the roles of:
Oedipus, the newly elected King of Thebes. He is a deeply egotistical, profoundly proud individual. Having been elected on the back on a surge of popularism, he seek to reform Thebes in his image. He is quick to aggression, believing that a great ruler is a fierce ruler.
Creon, Brother-in-law to Oedipus, and his most trusted advisor, Creon’s ambition for political power is clear to everyone. Creon believes that the only way for Thebes to prosper is under the complete control of a great king. He is conniving and underhanded, willing to do whatever it takes to further his agenda.
Tiresias, the seer, is the person who has his finger on the pulse of Thebes.
Jocasta, Oedipus’s Queen claims to hold no desire for power, but is currently Queen to her second King. Jocasta, like her son, is a deeply proud individual, believing herself to be the voice of reason in a turbulent country.
Polynices, Son of Oedipus, hopes to one day jointly rule Thebes with his brother, Etecoles.
