PLAY READING SERIES – Flyin’ West by Pearl Cleage

Following the end of the Civil War, many former slaves took advantage of The Homestead Act and went West to build new lives for themselves and their families.  Set in 1898, the play is the story of several African-American female pioneers who settled together in the all-black town of Nicodemus, Kansas.

Roles for 4 black women, 2 black men, age 20s-60s

Friday – Sunday, July 12 – 14 and July 19 – 21,

FULL PRODUCTION – Pipeline by Dominique Morisseau

An inner-city public high school teacher is committed to her students, but desperate to give her only son opportunities they’ll never have. When a controversial incident at his upstate private school threatens to get him expelled, she must confront his rage and her own choices as a parent.

Roles for 2 black females, 3 black males, 1 white female, age 20s-30s

Move-in and tech week Monday, July 8 – Thursday, July 11

PLAY READING SERIES – Facing Our Truth:  Short Plays on Trayvon, Race, and Privilege

Various authors.  These six plays, each by a different author, address current issues facing black America today; their goal is “to elicit discussion in our collective communities about these urgent issues.”

Roles for 5 black females, 5 black males, 1 hispanic male, age 20s-50s

​Auditions for Our 2019 Season

 

Spectrum Theatre Company will hold auditions for our 2019 Season on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 7:00 p.m., at the Dougherty Arts Center, 1100 Barton Springs Road, and Saturday, April 27, 11 a.m. at the Asian-American Resource Center, 8401 Cameron Road.   Actors may attend either session; you are not required to attend both. 

Actors should bring a one-page acting resume; head shots are not required but will be accepted. Actors may prepare one two-minute monologue, comic or serious; there will also be readings from the scripts.  Actors will be compensated for all shows.
