Outside Mullingar
by Reverie Theatre Company

Feb. 23 (2019)

County Westmeath, Ireland, 2008. A story of two neighboring Irish farms and the families that reside there. On one farm, Anthony Reilly and his father, Tony, are at odds over who should inherit the farm upon Tony’s death. On the other farm, Rosemary Muldoon dwells on her unrequited love for Anthony in the company of her ailing mother, Aoife. Through the tale of these four characters, Outside Mullingar weaves an incredibly heartbreaking and heartwarming story of old grudges, penetrating loneliness, painful secrets long kept, and, ultimately, profound love.

ROLES TO BE CAST:

TONY REILLY - 60s-80s

Tony is a very proud man and is a cantankerous and tough father to his grown son, Anthony. Only at the moment of his death, in perhaps the most moving moment of the play, is he finally able to reveal to his son his true feelings of love and pride. The role requires great emotional range, sensitivity, and strength.

AOIFE MULDOON - 60s-80s

Aoife is a strong woman with firm opinions and a profound love for her grown daughter, Rosemary. The play begins directly after the funeral of Aoife’s husband, and her grief for his loss is quite strong. Aoife is getting on in years, and struggles with health issues that she fears may cut her life short, but she doesn’t let that get in the way of her pride and resilience.

PLEASE NOTE: the roles of Anthony and Rosemary have already been cast.
