AUDITION NOTICE

 

ZACH Theatre’s Theatre for Families Seriesannounces auditions for TORTOISE AND HAREon Tuesday, May 15th from 3:00pm – 6:00pm in ZACH’s JLA Studio at 1510 Toomey Road.  Callbacks will be scheduled on Thursday, May 17th from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm at the same location.

 

REHEARSAL & PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE:

Rehearsals begin on Tuesday August 14, 2018.  The show will run for schools and families in the Kleberg Theatre through January 27, 2019.  Performances will be Tuesdays through Fridays at 10:00am & 12:00pm, and Saturdays and Sundays at 11:00am & 2:00pm.

Actors will be seen BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.

Please include in the email a resume and headshot attached in PDF or Word Document format, and please indicate your preferred audition time.  All actors should bring a hard copy headshot and resume to the audition.

 

AUDITION INSTRUCTION:

NOTE:  We are seeking nine (9) non-AEA actor/singer/dancers (3 men, 3 women, 1 teenage girl, and 2 understudies).   Actors should only audition if they will have daytime availability in August 2018 – January 2019.

 

For the audition, actors should prepare 32 bars of a pop/rock song.  Please bring your book in case we need to hear alternate audition songs. Callbacks will include reading and singing from the show – sides & sheet music will be sent separately to those asked to attend.

ROLES TO BE CAST:

KAMA: The kind, young-adult, self-doubting, leader of the tortoises.

 

SIMON: Kama's precocious younger brother.  Walk's with the help of a leg brace from a

childhood incident.

 

NOVI (also plays Joey): An older, wise, and loyal friend to Kama.  Forever worried that he will disappoint her.

 

HARO (also plays Presley): a very curious teen tortoise.  A reader.

 

MONOLI (also plays Britney): A tortoise of enormous heart.  She carries ceremonial duties.

 

BERO (also plays Jackson):  The musician and foreman.  An intellectual.

 

KABRI (also plays Harper):  Architect and historian for the tortoises.

 

JACKSON: The President of Hares.  Part Justin Timberlake, part LeBron James, part Napoleon. All ego.

 

HARPER: Jackson's girlfriend. She secretly desires a different way of life full of books and PBS documentaries.  

 

JOEY:  Jackson's sidekick/yes-man.

 

PRESLEY and BRITNEY:  Jackson's entourage/backup singers.

 

NOTE:  We are also casting understudies to cover all roles.
