Be Our Guest! This “tale as old as time” follows Belle, a book-smart and adventurous young woman and Beast, a formerly dashing young prince cursed by an enchantress. If the Beast cannot learn to love and be loved in return, he and his household including Lumiere, Cogsworth, Mrs. Potts, and Chip will be trapped forever under the spell. The Broadway smash hit showcases a merry, award-winning score with such favorites as “Beauty and the Beast,” “Gaston,” and “Be Our Guest.” This delightful family musical enchants and transforms hearts of all generations.

 


AUDITION NOTICE

 

ZACH Theatre announces local auditions by appointment for DISNEY’S BEAUTY AND THE BEAST on Monday, March 12th and Tuesday, March 13th from 4:00 pm – 11:00 pm, in ZACH’s Nowlin Rehearsal Studio at 1426 Toomey Road.  Callbacks will be scheduled for Wednesday, March 14th from 4:00 pm – 11:00 pm in the JLA Studio at 1510 Toomey Road.

REHEARSAL & PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE:

Rehearsals begin June 12, 2018.  Performances begin July 11, 2018, and closes on September 2, 2018, with shows Wednesdays through Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Saturday and Sundays at 2:30 pm. 

 

AUDITION APPOINTMENT INSTRUCTIONS (PLEASE READ THESE CAREFULLY):

Actors will be seen BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.

 To schedule an appointment, please send an email to auditions@zachtheatre.org with the subject line that reads:

 “(YOUR FIRST NAME, YOUR LAST NAME) B&B Austin Auditions”

 Please include in the email a resume and headshot attached in PDF or Word Document format, and please indicate your preferred audition time.  All actors should bring a hard copy headshot and resume to the audition.

 All AEA members will be seen, and all non-union members will be seen while appointments slots are available.  If you are not able to be seen at this audition, ZACH will make all best efforts to schedule you for a later audition date.

 AUDITION INSTRUCTION:

Actors should specify if they are auditioning for ensemble roles, or principal roles – we are seeking men and women of all ethnicities and ages, equity and non-equity.  An accompanist will be provided; no pre-recorded music allowed.

 For ensemble roles, prepare a 32-bar cut of a song in the style of the show, and bring relevant sheet music. You may be asked to sing an additional contrasting song of your choosing, so please bring your book. Additionally, please be prepared to be led in a jazz combo, so bring character/jazz shoes. If you have any gymnastic or acrobatic abilities, please be prepared to show off your skill!

 For principal roles, prepare two contrasting 16- to 32-bar cuts of a song in the style of the show, and bring relevant sheet music. You may be asked to sing an additional contrasting song of your choosing, so please bring your book.

 ROLES TO BE CAST:

(NOTE:  any role not listed below has been cast.)

 Principal Roles:

Belle (Mezzo-Soprano, mix/belt): A vibrant, intelligent young beauty who wants more out of life than an ordinary existence.

 

Beast (Baritone): A Prince transformed into a terrifying beast for his lack of compassion; hot-tempered and commanding, but with a warm, loving heart buried far beneath his gruff exterior.

 

Lefou (Baritone): Gaston’s bumbling, toady sidekick.

 

Maurice (Baritone): Belle’s loving, quirky, eccentric inventor father

 

Cogsworth (Baritone): A tightly-wound, enchanted mantle clock and the head of the Beast’s household.

 

Chip (Tenor; a 7-10 year old boy): An enchanted teacup, and Mrs. Potts’s darling little boy.

 

Madame de la Grand Bouche (Mezzo-Soprano): A former opera diva turned enchanted wardrobe.

 

Ensemble Roles:

Monsieur D’Arque (Tenor; must dance): The creepy, scheming proprietor of the local insane asylum, “The Maison De Lune”.

 Enchantress:  Featured dancer role in opening prologue. Also doubles in ensemble. Requires pointe experience.

The Silly Girls (Various Vocal Ranges): Gaston’s admirers, and featured dancers.

Other ensemble includes various townspeople, enchanted objects, and wolves.
