A Christmas Carol, A New Musical
by Georgetown Palace Theatre

Sep. 16 - Sep. 17 (2017)

Keith Ferguson & Bruce Greer have created a new musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' 1843 novella that is faithful to Dickens' plot and prose, while highlighting both the spiritual and social themes woven throughout this Christmas classic. The score has many original songs written in a traditional musical theater style, while also carefully integrating familiar carols and songs of Christmas that audiences will love.

The Georgetown Palace announces auditions for our production of Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol

We are looking for an amazing group of people to help us tell this classic tale. In addition to the principal roles, we will have an ensemble that has many roles for men and women, as well as children, ages 8 and up. All roles are open. We will be doubling lots of roles in the show, so the ensemble will be very busy. We're also considering some non-traditional casting possibilities, such as Ghost of Christmas Present might be a female.  This show is going to be a lot fun.

Please note - The actor or actress playing the role of Tiny Tim must be at least 8 years old. We will consider all genders for this role.

Role Sharing/Conflicts:

The show will have 19 performances (with an inclusion show).  Since the production performs around the holidays, it is understandable that some who want to be involved may have performance conflicts. It is our preference not to double cast any of the roles unless we have to. However, please do not let having performance conflicts prevent you from auditioning. On your audition form, please let us know what your needs and wishes are regarding role sharing, and to what degree any conflicts are negotiable.

Audition Info

There are separate audition times for children and adults.

Children 12 and under are asked to sign up for a time on Saturday the 16th at 2:00 pm.  The children's audition will consist of being taught a song and singing together and having a dance call, they will not need to attend Monday night's dance call.

Auditions will be held Sept 16th, 17th, with a dance call on the 18th.

Auditions will consist of singing one of the selected sides, Click here.

Everyone who auditions on Saturday will come to the dance call on Monday, 9/18 at 7 pm, and everyone who auditions on Sunday will come on Monday at 8:15pm. Everyone who auditions must come to the dance portion Monday, as it is critical we be able to see how everyone moves, except the children who will sing and dance at their initial audition on Saturday.

Rehearsals: Rehearsals are scheduled to begin Monday, October 16th. Rehearsals will typically be held Monday through Thursday 7:00-10:00 and Saturday 1:00-5:00 pm. We will be distributing the scripts and music as soon casting is done, and asking everyone to be familiar with at least the lyrics by the first rehearsal. Tech rehearsals are typically Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 pm to 11:00 pm with a dinner break.

A note for parents: Children will not be scheduled at every rehearsal, although they will be called more and more the closer we get to opening night, and they will be called every night for tech.  We will strive to release the children by 8:30 pm when they are called to rehearse. We ask that you allow them to stay later during tech week, and it will be later for performances.

A Christmas Carol opens on Friday, December 8th, 2017 and closes December 30th. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm, with Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm.  We have several Saturday matinees already scheduled, all at 2:00 pm. This production also has several weeknight performances in late December.

Background checks: Everyone involved with the production must submit to a background check at the Palace's expense. Parents: if you are dropping off a child younger than 16 you will be asked to submit.  If you are cast, you'll receive a secure link where you can fill it out. There is no cost to you.
