Hairspray
by Temple Civic Theatre

Jun. 04 - Jun. 05 (2017)

Auditions for a role in Hairspray with Temple Civic Theatre on Jun 04 through Jun 05.

Auditions are just around the corner for our big summer musical, Hairspray!

Open auditions for our summer musical, Hairspray, will be Sunday & Monday, June 4 & 5, at 7 p.m. at the theatre. There are many roles for men, women and students (high school age and older). We especially need African-American actors and actresses. A younger African-American girl is needed to portray Little Inez.

Auditioners are asked to prepare a brief song (32 bars or less) that shows off their voice. We'll have an audition pianist (bring your sheet music) and a CD player (with auxiliary cord) on hand, but you may also bring your own electronic playback device. We will use cold readings from the script and there will also be a movement exercise — so wear comfortable clothes.

Director will be Sara Harris Baker, Ph.D., Director of Choral Activities at Temple College. Some of the past productions directed by Sara include Avenue Q, Seussical, Schoolhouse Rock, Clue, The Wizard of Oz, Brigadoon, Hairspray and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown. She has also appeared in several Temple Civic Theatre musicals and was previously choir director at Bonham Middle School and Burleson Centennial High School. Her email is saraharrisbaker@hotmail.com

Choreographer will be JoAnna Langthorn. Musical Director will be Dr. Benjamin Irom. Applications to work on the crews will also be taken during auditions.

You do not have to be a member of Temple Civic Theatre to audition. There is no audition fee. Rehearsals are typically Sunday through Thursday evenings (7-10 p.m.) except during the weekend before opening night. Performance dates are July 14-16, 20-23, 28-29.
