Was He Anyone?
by APS Rep

Jan. 30 - Feb. 04 (2017)

Auditions for a role in Was He Anyone? with APS Rep on Jan 30 through Feb 04.

Playwright and Director G. Warren Steele (AEA) continues to hold auditions for a new company (APS Rep) which will  operate out of his rehearsal/workshop space, Austin Playwrights Studio. The auditions will take place at the Studio, 5555 N. Lamar Blvd., Bldg K, Suite 125, on the following dates and times: 7 to 10 on Mon., Jan. 30 and  7 to 9 on Sat., Feb. 4.

Actors will audition in the order of their arrival at APS.  Mr. Steele was encouraged by the actors who read in the 1st round of auditions in Dec. and Jan. and intends to hold auditions until the company is populated by actors committed to the ensemble idea. Regular meetings will begin immediately once the company is formed.

Auditioning for a diverse ensemble of 4 men and 4 women from 20 to 30. Actors will read from the first play Mr. Steele is considering producing, an adaptation of the absurdist N.F. Simpson's WAS HE ANYONE? and from other scenes in the sketch comedy vein.

Other roles in this play and from a companion piece (ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE) to be performed in repertory will be auditioned for at a later date.

There will be a printed handout explaining the form that this new company will take and the range of activities in which company members may participate beyond the mere production of plays.  At present, the thinking is that it will be a non-Equity company which may hire an Equity actor or two (under certain AEA rules) in which case company members may receive salaries as close as possible to the prevailing Equity scale. Mainly, though, the intent of the company is to do as much ensemble work as possible (readings, workshops, master classes, etc.) in order to enhance skills.
